• Eat 5 to 9 servings of fruits and vegetables each and every day
• Eat 3 servings of whole grains daily
• Get 30 to 60 minutes of physical activity at least five times per week
• If overweight, lose 5 percent of their total body weight

The Foundation has developed a 30-day calendar of events on their website that offers articles, nutrition tips, healthy recipes, and even games and puzzles that you can share with your parents. The site also provides suggestions on how to stay active, including, planting and working in a garden, going to a Farmer’s Market together, swimming, or going on family walks.  You can access the calendar of events, activities and recipes on their website (www.defeatdiabetes.org), as well as more information about diabetes and how to work with your parent toward preventing it.
