WHAT MAKES A GOOD EMPLOYEE – A GREAT EMPLOYEE?

As a writer, you have the opportunity to meet and interview numerous people.  It is with pleasure that I introduce most of the candidates selected to be featured in publications but on occasion the process must be mastered with skillful dissection tactics to formulate extraneous information shared through this tedious process in hopes of creating a profile of interest.  However, it is on days like today when you cross paths with someone so special that you realize how fortunate the world is to possess such a fascinating person, that you truly feel “blessed” to be on the same team, not to mention your writing task becomes effortless.

For the first time in my career I am posting raw documentation from an interview in fear that I may lose content or translation and with the hope that my readers will hear what I have heard and truly understand what makes a good employee, a great employee.  Star Multi Care Services is pleased to introduce a Star Employee, Evet Roach-Clarke.

INTERVIEWER:  Why did you apply with Star Multi Care Services (SMCS)?

EVET:  “I applied with Star Multi Care because I love the environment of the company.   It has been around for over seven decades and employs over 500 employees.  Although it may seem small for as long as it has been around, the company’s size has given me the opportunity to grow and learn new skills and to take on new roles and responsibilities.  In addition, SMCS has the reputation for quality which is very important to me.  They believe their clients and families deserve the peace of mind that our compassionate care givers provide each day.  At SMCS, they continually invest in their employees and in new, innovative approaches to modern health care to provide patients comprehensive in-home health services.  They also believe in educating you on the various topics of home health care services.  This, in turn, allows me to make informed decisions for patients, a patient’s family or people seeking general information.”

INTERVIEWER:  Tell me about the care you provide to your clients?

“My number one passion when it comes to my clients is that I truly love people.   My passion allows me to serve and care for others.  I believe that this is my calling and God has always enhanced and bettered the lives of my patients.  When I help others, I forget about my own problems and appreciate the smaller things and this helps me to focus only on my patients.  I put a smile on my face, speak in a tone that lets my patients know that everything is okay, and they believe me.  For example, I had a patient that said to me one day, ‘I don’t know what I did to deserve this kind of treatment (care) but I got someone who truly cares for people, not just a paycheck”.  I worked with her for 3 years, until she passed.  I knew from the very first day she trusted me with her life.  I will continue to roll out the Red Carpet for every patient I meet.  I give nothing but VIP customer service.  This is what gives me passion.”

INTERVIEWER:  What are some special things you do or did for your clients that made you a “Star Employee”?

EVET:  “I don’t think of myself as a Star, I’m just a person who cares.  I try to give them that extra push when others may not because they are sick.  Each of our clients has a personalized plan of care developed by the RN and the client.  I try to mentally walk in their shoes in order to better care for them.  I had one client who was completely blind, deaf and had an amputated foot.  Some caregivers thought he was so sick that he should be sent back in to the hospital ‘because he looked like he wasn’t going to make it’.  I saw the fight in him.  I never let his problems discourage me, Instead they lifted me when I arrived to the home.  I wanted to restore his hope.  I remember closing my eyes to imagine what it was like to be blind.  I was able to see what his world looked like.  From that day on, I would describe the colors of the clothes he was going to wear.  He would smile and say, ‘good combination’.  I made him happy.   As we would go to the dining room for meals I would tell him that he was a ‘very intelligent man and that he could do anything he wanted’.  I set up his plate like a clock so he would know where everything was on his plate.  His family was amazed that he could eat by himself and the progress he made.  Most people didn’t even know my name was Evet because he would call me ‘IVET #1, she is the best’.  I was happy to be a part of his transformation.”

INTERVIEWER:  Why do you stay with Star Multi Care?

EVET:  “I stay with SMCS for many reasons, but the one most important to me is that they are a company who really cares about their patients and their employees.  They do a good job matching their patients with the right caregiver.  The office staff is always willing to listen, help or even give a hand solving the most difficult problem you can encounter.  My job satisfaction has been more rewarding working with this great company.”

INTERVIEWER: Do you have any hobbies?

EVET:  “Yes, I have hobbies, but I mostly like doing things that keep me fit and that clears my mind from stress, like exercising, taking long walks, meditation and reading motivational books like Zig Ziglar”.

INTERVIEWER: Any additional comments?

EVET: “I would strongly recommend anyone to Star Multi Care for services and employment because they care as much as I do”.

Evet has been a Certified Nursing Assistant at Star Multi Care Services’ Florida branch since January, 2011.  Her attitude and work ethic is motivational to all who meet her.

“The choice to have a great attitude is something nobody or no circumstance can take away from you”.
