Wound Care

IVs and Feeding Tubes

If your mom or dad developed aspiration pneumonia during the recovery, IV antibiotics may be used to keep it from worsening. It’s possible that your mom or dad finished these medications before being released from the hospital. If not, it’s something you might be able to arrange at home.

Feeding tubes are also used during the recovery. If your parent cannot swallow or chew, a feeding tube is needed until those skills return. Nurses have the training required to manage these feedings.
